Junior Ranks' Mess

The Ricketts Mess is a popular place for the lower ranks of Garrison St. John’s to unwind.

The Ricketts Mess is named after the late Thomas (Tommy) Ricketts (1901-1967).

Born in Middle Arm, Newfoundland and Labrador, Tommy Ricketts was the youngest army recipient fighting in a combat role to receive the Victoria Cross.

Located at the top floor of the Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander W. Anthony Paddon building, it boasts amazing views of Quidi Vidi Lake.

Whether shooting pool, playing darts, or watching sports on the huge projector screen, the Ricketts Mess is the place to entertain. With monthly events, like TGIT where everyone knows its pizza night, and TGIF afternoons with live local entertainment and pub foods on the menu; this is the place to be.

With its beautiful views and décor, it has become a coveted venue for private functions such as weddings, birthdays, retirements, and Christmas parties.
