Do I pay mess dues while on Parental Leave (PATA) leave?
A military member is not required to pay Mess Dues while on PATA if their intention is to not to use the mess during their leave. In this case, prior to going on PATA leave, the member will need to clear out of the mess and NPP Accounts. Conversely, if the member intends to use the mess while on leave, they will need to pay cash or set up a pre-authorized debit for the mess dues through the mess clerk, as deductions cannot be taken from military pay while on PATA.
-
Why didn’t the mess inform me that I was paying dues at more than one mess?
Each mess only has access to see a member’s activity at that specific mess thus, they would not be aware that a member was paying dues at another mess.
-
Why am I paying mess dues at more than one mess and how do I get this fixed?
Mess dues were not ceased during the out-clearance routine at the mess. The member should contact the mess that they no longer belong to and have them correct the error. The mess will be able to cease the mess dues and issue a refund.
-
I am being promoted, how do I change my mess?
You need to do an out-routine at the mess you are leaving and have them cease your current dues. Also, do an in-routine at the new mess to have them start your new mess dues.
-
Why, as a reservist, can I not get my mess dues deducted from my pay?
A reservist can get mess dues deducted from their pay but it needs to be done by the Reservist through their Reserve Pay Clerk. It cannot be done through the Mess since NPP operations do not have access to Reserve Pay. The Reservist would then need to contact the Mess to notify them that their mess dues will be issued monthly through a Revised Pay System for the Reserves (RPSR) via cheque.
-
I have my Mess Dues coming off my Reserve Pay (RPSR) but I am being told they are outstanding?
If your Mess Dues have been deducted from your Reservist Pay, the funds may not have been sent to the Mess to be processed against the outstanding balance. Please contact your Reserve Pay Clerk for assistance.

Why do I have to pay mess dues?
Every member must belong to a mess appropriate to their rank. The amount of dues payable each month is determined/approved by the general mess membership.
