  • What is the Physical Fitness Maintenance Grant (PFMG) and what expenditures can be made with PFMG funds?
    As per Chapter 10-6 of the PSP Policy Manual (PSP PM), the PFMG is a publicly funded program provided under QR&O 210.37 (Regular Force) and 210.375 (Reserve Force) and funds shall be used solely for the provision and maintenance of the following physical fitness equipment:
    a.    “activity equipment”; and
    b.    “operating equipment”.

    Activity Equipment is defined as apparatus and consumables needed for participation in Base authorized Fitness and Sports program activities. Examples include basketballs, hockey sticks, softball gloves, bats, balls and game jerseys. 

    Operating Equipment is defined as the provision, repair, and replacement of easily movable physical fitness and sports apparatus with a substantial life span. Examples include aerobic/weight training equipment and hockey goals or nets.

    Note: Regular Force PFMG is centralized under CFMWS for public reimbursement and annual funding levels may be impacted by DND funding priorities. 
  • What can’t I use the PFMG grant for?
    Funds from the PFMG grant shall not be used for:
    a.    rental of training accommodation or equipment;
    b.    fees, memberships, shares, or admissions related to activities;
    c.    games room equipment (e.g. darts, ping pong supplies, shuffle board, billiards);
    d.    furniture, furnishings, or entertainment appliances (e.g. television sets, stereos, lockers);
    e.    prizes, awards, trophies, crests, gifts, or payment-in-lieu;
    f.    provisions of facilities (e.g. sauna baths, squash courts, movable facilities, including renovations and maintenance);
    g.    provisions of installed equipment (e.g. arena time clock, shower facilities).
     
  • What is the Military Program Wage Grant (MPWG formerly MSWG) and what can it be used for?

    MPWG is provided to support the hiring of casual and/or part-time NPP employees and contractors in direct support of existing military physical fitness and sports programs.

    Acceptable uses of the MPWG include but are not limited to:

    a.    physical fitness instruction; 
    b.    physical fitness evaluation;
    c.    lifeguard services for military training; 
    d.    officials and referees for the military sports program; 
    e.    and gymnasium, arena and sports field labour in support of the military fitness and sports program.

  • What is the Hospital Comforts Fund/Program?
    Hospital Comforts is a program provided through Support Our Troops that ensures members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) who are hospitalized due to illness, injury, accident or surgery for longer than 48 hours are made comfortable for the duration of their stay.

  • Can Base/Wing Funds give grants to local units?

    Base/Wing Funds can give grants to local units for morale and welfare purposes.

    As per the CDS Delegation of Authority for the Administration of NPP, unit NPP grants shall not be allocated for direct use on/for civilians. Unit grants shall only be provided on the basis of CAF members.

  • Can Base/Wing Funds give grants to local NPP entities in lieu of a loan?
    Base Funds may grant funds (Internal Grant) to Subsidiaries, Entity Funds, Messes and Institutes in support of Morale and Welfare activities to offset prior period losses, operating expenses in the current period, and/or to reduce the cost of acquiring or constructing fixed assets.
