KMFRC YOUth Matter

YOUth Matter is an initiative by the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC) that aims to empower and support youth within the military community.

    YOUth Matter officially launched in December 2023 with an event including fun activities, the chance for youth to submit their suggestions for services/events, YOUth Matter swag and prizes, and information about the YOUth Matter Advisory Committee (YMAC).  

The KMFRC YOUth Matter team is continuing their mission to show YOUth they matter to us! 

Youth ages 12–18 from military families are invited to join us for bi-weekly drop-in activities designed to build friendships, strengthen confidence, and support mental health and wellness in a welcoming environment.

Each session begins with opportunities for open conversation and engaging activities focused on mental health, wellness, and life skills, followed by fun social activities where youth can connect with peers who understand military life. An after-school snack is also provided.

Whether you’re looking to meet new people, learn new skills, or simply have a place to belong after school, YOUth Matter is here for you.

Most sessions are drop-in, where youth can join without registering. Some special activities and events require advance registration, be sure to check the schedule and save your spot!

YOUth Matter Advisory Committee (YMAC)

Have ideas about what youth activities, events, and support should look like at the KMFRC? The YOUth Matter Advisory Committee (YMAC) gives military-connected youth ages 13–20 the chance to help shape them.

YMAC is made up of youth volunteers and KMFRC staff working together to ensure services and events are relevant, welcoming, and youth-friendly. Members help plan activities, share feedback, connect with peers, support events, and bring new ideas forward that reflect what youth in the military community actually want and need.

It’s also a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours for your secondary school diploma, build leadership skills, strengthen your resume, and make meaningful connections with other military-connected youth.

Whether you want to make a difference, meet new people, or help create better opportunities for your peers, YMAC is your chance to have your voice heard.

YTC - Youth Training Course - Gym Orientations for Youths

‘Training’ goes far beyond ‘working-out’. Physical fitness comes in many forms. Youth (12-17 years) will listen, participate, understand, and remember key messages and learn the basics skills needed for building a fit, healthy body and a movement-filled life both inside and outside the school gym, sports arena, and fitness club. Successful course completion allows youth to use CFB Kingston weight room and cardio room equipment.
