Hype Program – Helping Youth Personally Excel

In partnership with the MFRC, PSP offers a unique Youth Leadership Program that provides customizable learning workshops for young people that empower participants to discover their potential, explore social issues, build transferable skills and create positive social change.
 
 Youth leadership programs are about building character, good citizenship and developing the social, emotional and vocational abilities of youth who also serve as ambassadors and role models for the other children and youth throughout the organization and positively influence decision-making on issues related to youth.
  
 HYPE participants may exercise the following workshops and opportunities throughout the duration of the program: employment workshops (resume, business cards, etc.), study skills workshops, volunteer opportunities (Food Bank), field trips (paint ball, camping, etc.), guest speakers, crafting and gift making (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc.), various training opportunities (High Five, Super Hero Training, babysitting, etc.), Exchange trips community service, teamwork, fundraisers, etc.

PSP’s Recreation Association Youth’s Programs

  • Hip Hop Dance
    Hip-hop refers to street dance styles. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping. Participants will explore this groove-based style and get to dance to popular music. Perfect for kids with lots of energy to burn! All skill levels are welcome!

  • Kids Climbing
    The PSP Kids Climbing Program focuses on fitness, fun and friends with guided climbing, techniques, games and activities. All skill levels are welcome at our Kids Climbing Program!

  • Flag Football
    PSP’s Flag Football Program introduces athletes to football by developing and enhancing football specific skills through an inclusive and fun experience. The program is designed to introduce young athletes to the game while providing a safe environment to grow in the sport. All skill levels are welcome!

  • MultiSport 4 Youth
    PSP’s Multi-Sport 4 Youth program exposes youth to a wide variety of sports and activities in order to develop fundamental movement and sport skills with an emphasis on fun, fair play and teamwork.

    Our program allows players to challenge themselves, have fun and stay active! Included in our Multi-Sport Program: Ultimate, Flag Football, Dodgeball, Handball, Badminton, Soccer-Baseball, Volleyball, Flag Rugby and more!

    Groups including: Football New Brunswick, Ultimate New Brunswick, Loyalists Rugby Club will also assist with skills and drills, rules and regulations for some sports, when necessary.

  • Ball Hockey
    PSP’s Ball Hockey for Youth Program focuses on skill development, being active and having fun! Participation and teams will vary each night depending on who shows up to play! Jerseys, sticks and goggles will be supplied.

    How the sessions run:
    •    All sessions are coed “pickup” style games overseen by PSP Recreation Leaders.
    •    No assigned team week to week.
    •    This is a not a structured skills and drills program.
    •    Warm-up, rules and picking teams for 5 first minutes of timing.
    •    Recreation Leaders will ensure teams are fair and ensure rules are followed.
    •    Players will be moved as required to keep teams fair and games competitive.
    •    Fun and safety are the objective with this program.
    •    In case of inclement weather, additional timings will be added towards the end of the program.

    Rules for games
    •    Sticks are not permitted above the hip.
    •    No tripping, slashing, slap shots, or stick work.
    •    No jewelry.
    •    Only PSP or a parent can retreive a ball out of bounds.
    •    While waiting to play, participants must sit on the bench with their teammates.
    •    Players are not allowed to touch or manipulate dividers.
    •    Players must listen to PSP staff who blow the whistle.
    •    Staff will make trades as necessary to ensure games are fair.
    •    Staff will not call off-sides or goal keep.
    •    Anyone not following the rules will be asked to leave.
    •    Goggles must be worn during games.
    •    No personal gear is permitted. PSP will supply all necessary equipment.
  • Basketball
    In partnership with FitKids Basketball Acedemy, our focus is to help your child develop positive and healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Our mission is to help every FitKid participant increase their self-esteem, improve their fitness and build confidence.

    Through the program, children will learn and experience all the benefits that come along with regular exercise!

  • Rookie Rugby
    Rookie Rugby introduces the game of Rugby in a safe way for kids of all ages. The game is a non-contact form of rugby using flag belts, allowing players to learn the basics while being active and having fun with their friends.

    All skill levels are welcome at our multi-sport programs!
     
    Rookie Rugby is a game played in schools, communities, and back yards all across Canada. Boys and girls of all ages and abilities can easily pick up the game and begin playing right away. The rules are simple, the game is easy to learn, and minimal equipment is required.

  • Youth & Teen TGIF
    Youth & Teen TGIF is the place to be on Fridays. Participants are welcome to kick back and relax while listening to music, play games, enjoy some arts and crafts, participate in open or structured sports or just catch up with friends. Whatever the reason, Youth TGIF is a safe place for youth to come and just be themselves! Check out our Pictures from the Youth & Teen TGIF program 

    Youth TGIF Drop-ins will have a schedule of activities for each week per age category. The schedule of activities include but are not limited to:

  • Youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
    PSP’s BJJ Program can help achieve health and fitness goals while also developing self-discipline, understanding and respect.
    Youth learn to defend themselves without the use of violence and the adopted methods make them feel safe and more confident in everyday life.

    All skill levels are welcome at our BJJ program!

  • PSP Intro to Weight & Cardio Training for Teens
    This is an introductory course on how to use the cardio equipment and weights properly and safely. Teens must have this 1-Day clinic in order to use the equipment in the gym themselves.

  • PSP Weight Training & Cardio Intro for Teens
    This introductory course is designed to teach teens how to use cardiovascular exercise equipment and weights correctly and safely. Teens must take this one-day course to use the gym equipment themselves.

    Ages 13 to 17
