Can Praxis

While the Canadian Forces uses team building, communications training and leadership development to prepare soldiers for war, Can Praxis uses horses to help soldiers recover from it and regain their family relationships.

The MFRC offers free short-term, confidential support to CF members and their families experiencing challenging situations and events. Our services are in place to enhance the social functioning and emotional well being of CF families. See the tabs in this section for details on each of our three counsellors. 

Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) - 204-727-2555 

The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) has eight beds for people needing a place to stay for a few days while receiving care.  Our team will help you develop a plan to deal with the situation that threatens your mental health.   

The plan will be different for each person and could include any of the following:  

  • Crisis intervention
  • Help to adjust to medications
  • Learning healthier coping skills
  • Help with social skills
  • Linking to your support system
  • Help to increase resources
  • Help to prevent further crisis


Mobile Crisis Unit (MCU) - 204-725-4411 

MCU is a community-based service that is mobile – caring staff will meet with people in their own home, or another suitable place. Mobile Crisis Unit (MCU) is a voluntary service available by phone 24 hours a day providing support to Brandon and Prairie Mountain Health South communities. We welcome calls or referrals from anyone concerned about a persons mental health status. MCU staff will also meet with people in their own home or other suitable place in Brandon and PMH South.
