Special Needs Inclusion 

The KMFRC Military Family Navigator team provides support and resources to military families whose loved ones have exceptional physical, emotional and/or intellectual needsThese include: 

  • Resources available
    • Referrals to community partner agencies for customized programs, services and assessments 

    • Assistance with applications for the Special Needs grant from Support Our Troops 

    • Information about a range of tutoring supports 

    • A lending library that loans out assistive devices, as well as books related to diverse topics, including mental health and wellness, parent support, and various diagnoses 

    • A sensory room in which children and adults can be calmed or re-energized by a multi-sensory environment   

    • Build-a-Binder workshops, designed to organize relevant educational and/or medical documents for greater accessibility during transitions between schools or health care providers, or when a family member has a new diagnosis or educational need. 

    Military Family Navigators are also able to connect families with resources to help with such areas as managing routines and transitions, decreasing anxiety, promoting behavioural regulation, addressing concerns about disrupted sleep, etc. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list.
