One on One Training:

  • Every member is to fill out an intake form. Copies are located at the front desk or can be filled out online by clicking here.
  • Members will be assigned PSP Fitness and Sports Instructor (FSI) for one-on-one coaching.
  • FSI’s will initiate contact with the member to determine an appointment time/date to provide/discuss a daily fitness program.
  • Fitness programs will be tailored to preferred setting (ex. home, gym) and the physical capabilities of the member. 
  • FSIs will provide check ins and communication on progressions, goals and technique as required.

Unit Physical Training:

Here’s a list of commonly offered classes in CFB Halifax and 12 Wing Shearwater for the CAF. All classes can be designed to meet your unit’s needs. 

SPTP (FORCE PREP): (Voluntary participants are required to do an intake) A 12-week periodized program which focuses on preparing for the FORCE Evaluation by breaking down the four tasks into basic movements. Participants will notice an emphasis on cardio and strength to supplement their performance in the 20 meter rushes and sandbag drag. Although originally designed and mandatory for members who did not meet the minimum FORCE Evaluation standard, this class might be suitable for you if you’ve been unsuccessful in the past, are unfamiliar with the FORCE test or are simply looking to build confidence in this area.

FORCE PERFORMANCE: (Shearwater Gym Only) Ditch the cardio room and improve your cardiovascular fitness in this conditioning class which utilizes steady state cardio, moderate to high intensity interval training, circuits and carries 

SPIN CLASS: (Shearwater Gym Only) An excellent way to improve cardiovascular fitness. This class is geared towards raising your heart rate by incorporating various tempos and resistance in a high energy environment. Participants can work at their own pace, making this class suitable for all levels. 

CONDITIONING: (Fleet and Stad Gym Only) Ditch the cardio room and improve your cardiovascular fitness in this conditioning class which utilizes steady state cardio, moderate to high intensity interval training, circuits and carries. Create a balanced week of training by combining this class with  “Fleet Strength”. 

STRENGTH: (Fleet and Stad Gym Only A strength and power focused class based on planned variation, the seven functional movement patterns (push, pull, squat, lunge, hinge, rotation and gait), technique breakdown and skill progression. Emphasis is placed on proper form and safe lifting to build confidence in weightlifting. For balanced results, it’s recommended that participants complete their training week with “Fleet Conditioning”.

MOBILITY: (Shearwater Gym Only) Recover through various stretches and techniques (ie: trigger point and soft tissue release using lacrosse balls and foam rollers) which aid in the lengthening and deep release of the muscles. Forget the yoga lingo – time to work out those knots! 

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS: (Shearwater Gym Only) Functional training is a form of exercise that conditions our body through strength, agility and stability movements. Functional Fitness class is an excellent complement to any training goal 

DEEP FLOW YOGA: (Fleet Gym Only) A slowed down vinyasa flow. Focus on flexibility and joint health while moving through familiar yoga poses. Connect with your breathe while holding stretches and learn to listen to what your body needs. Mats and props are provided. 

VINYASA FLOW YOGA: (Fleet Gym Only) Vinyasa means flowing with breath. This class will raise your heart rate, build strength and balance while energizing your body through sequenced poses. Vinyasa flow is offered for all fitness levels with modifications provided. Mats and props are provided.
