    Winch House is a fully-furnished 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom bedroom home managed by the New Chelsea Society and is located at 1079 East 52nd Avenue in Vancouver. This facility is a “home away from home” and offers free accommodation for CAF members, veterans, civilian first-responders and their family members to recover from injuries, receive treatment or services from health facilities in Vancouver and surrounding areas. Set in a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood next to a children’s playground, this home is a perfect place for these honored residents to find assistance or treatment that they really need.

    The British Columbia Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Program (BCEA) promotes greater independence for people with disabilities, including income security. In addition, this ministry recognizes that people with disabilities may require additional supports, such as an increased assistance rate, supplementary assistance and specialized employment supports in order to meet the challenges of daily living and move towards greater independence. 
     
     

    BC Travel Assistance Program (TAP) 

    The BC Travel Assistance Program (TAPBC) helps alleviate some of OMITTED MEDICAL the transportation costs through providing financial assistance to residents of British Columbia who have to travel within the province for non-emergency medical or  specialist services not available in their own community. Residents must be referred by a physician or nurse practitioner (NP) for non-emergency MSP insured specialist medical services which are not available locally to qualify for this program. TAP forms are only available through your physician or NP when a referral is made. Once you have received your form and referral you can contact the TAP automated application service 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-661-2668 for registration and additional services/information. 
     


    Canada Revenue Agency - Disability Tax Credit  (DTC)  

    The disability amount is a non-refundable tax credit that a person who is markedly restricted in at least one or more basic activities of daily living and prolonged impairment in physical or cognitive functions can apply to reduce the amount of income tax he or she has to pay in a year.     BC Transit – handyDART

    handyDART is an accessible, door-to-door shared transit service for people with permanent or temporary disabilities that prevent them from using fixed-route transit without assistance from another person. handyDART picks you up at your accessible door and drops you off at the accessible door of your destination. 

    You must first register at no charge to use his service. 

     

    Angel Flight

    Angel Med Flight is a Canadian Transportation Agency approved organization that provides transportation to patients from points on Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Lower Mainland to treatment centres in Victoria and Vancouver. Their passengers have to travel long distances for a variety of specialist medical services such as cancer related diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy or any other treatments not available locally. They will also coordinate ground transportation from the airport to the medical treatment centre. For more information please go to their website. 

     

    Support Our Troops  

    Support Our Troops is an agile and responsive means for Base and Wing Commanders, in concert with Military Family Resource Centers (MFRCs) across the country, to help military and veteran families.  It may help with short-term emergencies and also provide long-term support. The Support Our Troops Fund allows CF leadership to meet the special-case needs of CF members and their families with speed and flexibility not always available through the traditional programs.

    The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) http://camosun.ca/services/accessible-learning/ provides a wide range of services and educational accommodations for students with a documented disability, including anxiety and depression. CAL staff are available on both campuses to arrange services and supports such as classroom and exam accommodations, accessibility assistance, and to act as a resource for students, faculty and staff.

    The CAL staff works with faculty and students to promote educational equity and accessibility for students with disabilities. This team provides services and programs and coordinates academic accommodations for students. They also act as consultants to faculty and work with the university community to help create a more accessible learning environment. 

      

    Grants for Students with Permanent Disabilities 

    The Canada Study Grant for the Accommodation of Students with Permanent Disabilities loan or grants can be available to help pay for exceptional education-related costs associated with an individual who has a disability. These costs may include tutors, oral or sign interpreters, attendant care for studies, specialized transportation (to and from school only), note takers, readers and providing braille.
